Introducing Felicia "The Poetess" Morris, a trailblazing figure in the world of radio and entertainment. Her remarkable journey began at the tender age of 5, when she made her radio debut on KDIA-AM, a renowned soul station in the San Francisco Bay Area, under the guidance of her father, the esteemed disc jockey and broadcast engineer, Johnny Morris.
Following in her father's illustrious footsteps, Felicia ventured to Los Angeles and secured her inaugural on-air role as a co-host on Bailey Broadcasting's nationally syndicated "Hip Hop Countdown and Report." This program could be heard in over 33 markets across the U.S., catapulting The Poetess into the national spotlight.
Fueled by her passion for poetry, Felicia transitioned her verses into captivating rap compositions, ultimately securing a groundbreaking recording contract with Poetic Groove/Interscope Records. This achievement marked her as the first female rapper on Interscope Records, sharing the roster with icons like 2Pac, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, and Gerardo. In 1992, she unveiled her debut album, "Simply Poetry," a collection enriched by collaborations with luminaries such as Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx, Def Jef, and Kool G. Rap. The album's lead single, "Love Hurts," swiftly ascended into the Top 10 on The Gavin Report's Rap Radio Charts, solidifying The Poetess' status as a prominent figure in the realm of hip hop.
Stepping into a new chapter of her career, The Poetess joined the ranks of L.A.'s esteemed KKBT/92.3 The Beat (later 100.3 The Beat) in 1994. Her discerning musical ear introduced audiences to the talents of artists like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Next, and Suga Free. Through insightful interviews, she gave Southern California listeners an intimate glimpse into the lives of their beloved celebrities.
Fuelled by her dedication to the community, Felicia assumed the role of Community Affairs Director for 100.3 The Beat. Here, she fervently advocated for critical issues such as gang prevention, economic empowerment, and health awareness. Her initiatives included voter registration drives, school supply distributions, community rallies, and health awareness campaigns.
Throughout her illustrious career, The Poetess collaborated with industry giants such as Clear Channel, Radio One, Sirius XM, and MTV. She has worked with luminaries like Steve Harvey, Tiffany Haddish, Cedric The Entertainer, Luenell, Tom Joyner, Reverend Al Sharpton and media mogul Cathy Hughes.
In 2007, after 13 years at KKBT-FM Los Angeles, Felicia embarked on a new chapter, joining The Foxxhole on Sirius XM Radio. This comedy and entertainment network, executive-produced by Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx, became the platform for her dynamic co-hosting and producing talents.
In 2014, Felicia ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing Morris Media Studios.
